This year, the tenth grade students who participated in National History Day (NHD) created well-researched, thoughtful and intellectual projects that impressed judges at the Philadelphia and Pennsylvania contests

How NHD works at Masterman |
Teamwork |
All tenth grade students write a NHD paper in class on the topic of their choice. In November, students who choose to begin to take an enrichment class and build their projects Outside SupportMasterman NHD is supported financially by NHD Philly, an organization of cultural institutions in Philadelphia that fundraise to ensure that all students can participate in the contests. NHD Philly provides not only financial and logistical support, but encourages cultural institutions to open their doors to our high school students so they can do archival research.
|
Our success is directly attributable to the teamwork implemented by alumna Emma O'Neill-Dietel. Eleventh and twelfth grade students with experience doing NHD mentor the tenth grade participants. Their advice is invaluable.
Institutional SupportOur team is further supported by generous grants for supplies from Masterman HSA, donations of time and money from parents, especially for the travel competitions, and support from the entire school community.
